A Christian Study in the Gnostic Tradition
A Christian is someone who has sinned, remains imperfect, yet has been forgiven and seeks to follow God through the teachings of Jesus Christ.
But what is sin?
Sin is disobedience to God's law.
And what is God's law?
Jesus answered this question plainly:
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
— Matthew 22:37–40 (KJV)
There it is. Two commandments. Love God. Love your neighbor.
According to Jesus, the entire Law and the Prophets rest upon these two principles. As a Christian, these are the commandments you are called to live by.
The teaching is simple. Living it is another matter.
Yet many Christians spend their lives searching the Scriptures, studying doctrines, debating theology, and looking for another way. Perhaps it is easier to believe the right things about Jesus than to actually live as he taught.
If you find yourself among them, read on.
